Are we all insecure sometimes?

This is my first post for this group so I hope the first try will be helpful to some of you. Do you feel insecure sometimes? I'll bet you do and I think it's part of the normal process of being an author. It means that sometimes we are afraid to take a big step toward our goal. We think that our work will be rejected. What can we do if that happens?

  •  One thing that might be helpful is remembering that the letter only reflects one person's opinion. Someone else can have an entirely different view of your work.
  • Did the editor give you some ideas on what might be changed in your manuscript? If so, then get to work on revising it.
  • Take a day or two off and then reread your work. Try to look at it with a fresh perspective, as if you were a person in your target audience, seeing it for the first time.
  • Remember that famous authors, like Dr. Suess, have had their work rejected dozens of times before someone recognized the genius of it.
  • Keep writing- Writing is like any other skill. The more you do it, the better you become. If writing is your passion and your dream, then pursue it!
  • Believe in yourself- Remind yourself that you are capable of much more than you ever imagined. You can succeed if you persevere. Perseverance is the key to success!
I hope that these little hints will encourage you whenever you feel like all is lost.

I want to write magical stories...fantasy...and maybe more geared to children/animals....their little magical lives...that sort of thing. I love all creatures great and small. I don't wonder if I will be a big hit, it would be nice however! Ha Ha.....someday. Sandy of www.sandysanderellasmusings.blogspot.com

  8. We really must believe in ourselves, doubt likes to affect us more than we should allow it. And taking a break is definitely helpful! Great post, Deanie ;)

  9. It's true, Katherine and sometimes it can be an elusive thing, especially when we've had disappointing news. But perseverance leads to success so we need to remind ourselves that we are capable of amazing things.
