Insecure Writer's Group: some thoughts for you

Well, it's the first Wednesday of the month so we can share our insecurities with those of you who follow AlexJCavanaugh.blogspot.com.  Be sure to hop on over there and check out what everyone is worrying about this month.
Since I have the same old fears as usual, I'll share some thoughts about dialogue with you.

What if you're writing a story and you want to make sure the dialogue between your characters is just right? Here are some things you might consider when you add dialogue to your story:

  • Does the dialogue you have in mind advance the story? Is it helpful to the readers? Does it tell your reader something important, or does it seem to be just taking up space?
  • Does your dialogue fit the character? If you have a shy character you don't want him acting suddenly brash and bold, do you?
  • If it's part of your nature to be amusing, you might share that with one of the people in the story. But if you don't have a lively sense of humor, the readers could sense the attempt at humor was forced.
I hope these little hints will help you write something spectacular. Thanks for stopping by and best wishes in all of your endeavors.
