Rachel Grace: Amazing

If you write kid’s books you want them to be your best. You might love writing about amazing kids, like I do. One truly amazing young lady is Rachel Grace. What is one thing about Rachel that’s remarkable? She was accepted to college.  You may not think this is unusual, but Rachel has Down’s Syndrome. The best thing is her parents never let her feel like a victim, or different from any of her friends.  Her mom always told her: You’re  going to college. You’re  going to have a family. You’re  going to have everything everyone else does.” I lover that attitude. It builds confidence and self-esteem. It helps you to know nothing is impossible. You learn the value of perseverance.
Rachel only applied to one college, East Stroudsburg  University,  because “it’s the only one” her parents were “comfortable with.”
Rachel’s college interview happened on March 17th. Here’s what her Mom said after the interview.
“All you could hear was her talking, talking, talking. When they walked out they said how much they enjoyed her. And all I could think was, ‘We can’t get this far and have this kind of feedback and it not work out.’”
Guess what happened next? Rachel got her acceptance letter. The video of her happily yelling, “I got in!” I’m going to college!” has gone viral.
I’m so excited for Rachel because I know what it’s like to beat the odds. It’s thrilling to realize your dreams. My parents instilled the same “can do” attitude in me. They said, “You can do anything you set your mind on.” Like Rachel, I had a big dream. I wanted to become a champion equestrian. My Dad and I made a plan and we never stopped working toward our goals. I"m so blessed to have learned the value of perseverance, the key to success.
