What can you do while you're waiting for the big news?

Let's imagine that you've finally finished your masterpiece. Your story has conflict, humor, good character development and a resounding message. You've carefully tucked it into the envelope,or you've pressed the send button on your computer. What can you do while you're waiting for an answer from the editor? You've probably considered setting up temporary residence at your mailbox or your computer, but that's not too practical. You could busy yourself with all the projects you ignored while you were writing your story. But can you do anything to advance your writing career? Yes you can. Here are some suggestions:
  • Tell your friends and family about your story: I know it's hard to promote yourself, but you can mention to those in your circle that you have written a story and your intuition tells you that it's going to be accepted. They're likely to support you and share your excitement. They may even send some prayers in your direction, which will help your cause. You'll be building a foundation. It won't be the concrete ones you build your house on, but it will be an expansion of your potential customers.
  • Post news on your Facebook page: You'll attract attention if you post updates on your Facebook page. Your followers will cheer for you. It'll keep your spirits lifted while you're waiting for news. You may also gather some new fans along the way so that when victory is yours, you'll have people anxious to have your book in their hands.
  • Start a blog: This is a great way to gain new friends and fans who are interested in your writing progress. It's something I began recently and I think it was a great decision. I've met wonderful people who always encourage me along the way.
  • Read and write: Read everything you can. It inspires you, informs you and can give you some great ideas. You'll see what other authors are saying. Be sure to  write as often as you can. I believe that writing is similar to other skills. The more you practice, the better you become. If you continue writing, you'll also gain confidence.
Now you have some helpful ways to not only occupy your time, but further your career. You have firmly
built your foundation and you can continue to expand it. You don't have to exhaust yourself running to the mailbox or sitting in front of your computer until  you're bleary-eyed. You've created something amazing and your reward will come. You've earned it.
