Review for Novo Space Robot: How to Shrink the Doubt Monsters by Charly Froh

 

Novolino, or Novo, for short is a  space robot. In the beginning of the story he explains what happened when "Doubt Monsters" came. They spoiled everything for Novo and his friends because they planted ideas that  discouraged fun, adventures, and curiosity. But Novo escaped the monsters and went to Earth. He noticed children on Earth took action when they doubted their abilites. They tried to accomplish things, even if they were afraid and it built confidence. The Earthlings even welcomed the doubting monsters and helped them learn about believing in themselves.  This book has bright, endearing illustrations. I thought the print was difficult to read in parts of the Kindle version. But the story is well-written and I feel that young children will enjoy it and learn from it.

New review for Sherlock Mendelson and the Missing Afikomen by David Shawn Klein

 

"Sherlock Mendelson and the missing Afikomen" is a delightful story about the traditons observed by the Jewish people during Passover. The author has a lovely, entertaining writing style that's easy for children and adults who don't observe Passover to understand what the holiday means.

Sherlock is a ten-year-old boy with an older and a younger sibling. He loves solving msysteries along with his dog, Watson. Sherlock and Watson have successfully found answers to "Who Ate the Last Scoop of Mom's Chocolate Chip Ice Cream and other mysteries. 

Readers will learn why Passover is celebrated, what's served at the Seder and much more. You'll love meeting the members of Sherlock's large family and following the clues along with Sherlock and Watson.

The puzzle of who stole the missing Afikomen was not an easy one for Sherlock to resolve, but he's a clever young man who finally sorts things out.

I believe children and families will enjoy this story and learn a great deal about the observance of Passover. I highly recommend it. The only reason I gave it four stars was that I found the print a bit difficult to read. Regardless, I loved the book.

Review of "My Tiny Pet Elephant" by Jessica Dailley

 

Hi Everyone, 

Here is my review for this adorable, endearing, interactive, children's book.

My Tiny Pet Elephant" is an adorable tale of a little girl who imagines having a petite pet elephant. What would they do all day ? Her little pet would splash around inside her cereal bowl. He'd have his own playground where he'd excel in hide and seek. The illustrations are comical and endearing. For example, there' s one where the elephant and child are in bed reading a bedtime story where the elephant is wearing a night cap! Young children are likely to adore this tale and learn things. In the back of the book there are entertaining interactive things parents and children can particiapate in. In fact, classrooms could also enjoy them. I highly recommend this book. It’s the perfect story to encourage children to use their imaginations.

Sticky Icky Vicky Book Review

 

5 Stars!

Sticky Icky Vicky is an adorable little girl who dreads any encounters with water, even baths.  She would rather do most anything else. Vicky loves playing with her best friends, Rhea and Betty. In fact she enjoys using so much energy that she gets sticky and sweaty.

Readers learn Vicky’s dread of water is not unfounded. She remembers vividly the water accident at the beach, when her dad was a hero. For some time, Vicky listened to a negative voice in her head that kept reminding her if she tries to face her fear, she will fail. But one day she realizes Betty and Rhea have many adventures she could enjoy.

Betty’s birthday arrives and it’s an amazing day for Vicky. She begins to listen to positive thoughts swirling in her head. She gradually enters the pool and has the most fun ever with her best pals. Vicky learned life is full of choices. She could opt to confront her fear by believing in herself.
I loved this story because every child experiences fear and could benefit by learning how to overcome it.

At the end of the book there are discussion topics readers and families can use to define fear and decide the best path for them to defeat it. I believe children will also love the bright, beautiful illustrations. I give this wonderful children’s book a well-deserved five stars.

Review of Bubba and Squirt's Mayan Adventure

 

This exciting story, Bubba and Squirt’s Mayan Adventure, begins when Bubba and his big sister, Squirt, visit their grandpa. They saw a strange looking statue there and grandpa told them it was called an Alux (Ah-loosh), or a Mayan gnome. Shortly after that, Bubba and Squirt use a sled but it isn’t to slide on the snow. Instead, it leads them down a mysterious tunnel where they see various pyramids.

Bubba and Squirt briefly think of going home, but they end up meeting a young girl named Esperanza and her dad. What happens next? Bubba, Squirt, Esperanza and her dad work together to find a crafty thief. Who was stealing the valuable Mayan artifacts? Readers will be mesmerized by the story. They’ll eagerly turn the pages to see what happens next.

This is an engaging story for young readers.  They will also enjoy the extra information at the end of the book, such as the information on the Mayan civilization, the country of Belize, the glossary,  and recipes that Bubba and Squirt enjoyed on their  journey. I highly recommend it. Another wonderful book by Sherry Ellis. Congratulations on a job well done, Ms. Ellis.
