Today is National Mutt Day

Good morning everyone. Can you tell what national holiday today is? It's National Mutt Day! Everyone knows purebred dogs are in demand. But did you know purebreds have many more health problems because of inbreeding?  They are more prone to illness and can have shorter lifespans.

In our own experience, we were looking for a Choclate Lab so we adopted a puppy from the local breeder. Our Riley was very cute, but he was difficult to train and had allergies. No matter what we did, he chewed his feet.We even tried putting socks on him, but he found ways to still chew his feet. We paid a professional trainer because he listened to them but not us. We owned him for seven years befoe he ran out the gate and got hit by a car. It was so sad.

Aftet that, we went to the local shelter to look for another dog. We thought we'd want another lab, but several people wanted to adopt the one they had. The shelter volunteer asked if we'd be intereted in adopting Elliott, a mixed breed with  a big head like a pitbull. He jumped into may lap an dkissed my cheek! Our young sons were captivated by Elliott's big smiley face. Our younger son said the dog had
character. We loved him and cared for him for the next 13.5 years Hewas the best dog ever.

What if you can't adopt a dog?  What other ways can you help? Volunteer at the shelter. Donate money to care for the animals.Help promote the shelter so more pople will learn about the dogs they offer. If you're lookig for a pet, I hope he or she makes  you smile every day like our Elliott did.
