What's your goal?
Hi everyone,
Do you believe in setting goals? I think it's a good idea because you have something to work toward. But make your goals realistic. Don't write down you want to make a million dollars this week, or lose 10 lbs in a week. You want to set yourself up for success so keep that in mind. You'll build your confidence along the way.
For example, what if you want to lose 5 lbs. in the next 6 weeks? The first thing to do is write it down because you can review it whenever you want and it'll help keep you focused. Are you an author?Write down your goals as an author. Would you like to sell a certain number of books? Write 3 books this year? Remember, add that to your list if it's one of your goals.
As a children's author, I believe every child deserves to be inspired to follow his/ her dreams. My goal is to reach as many children as possible. My books, Tails of Sweetbrier, Charlie the Horse, Charlene the Star and Hattie's Heroes, and Charlene the Star and Bentley Bulldog, all share valuable life lessons like sharing and helping others.
What are your goals for this year?

The Journey
Excitement was surrounding us. I studied Medical Coding with the hope of securing a job using my new skills. I worked tirelessly preparing for the daunting final exam and scored well. I even got a letter of recommendation from the school for scoring in the top ten percent. But actually being hired was far more difficult than I imagined. It seems that people were hesitant to hire a Medical Coding person who had no experience. Naturally, this adventure didn’t end the way I hoped it would. What path should I take now?

An interview with Amazing author, Kathleen Andrews Davis
"Today I have the pleasure of chatting with amazing author, Kathleen Andrews Davis. Kathleen, I welcome you to talk about your books today. I've read and reviewed Smoke and Mirrors. It's a wonderful book, congratulations."
Thank you, Deanie, I'm excited to be here as well and I appreciate your compliment regarding my book."

Have you always
been interested in writing?
Actually, I hated writing in school. I was a math, science, and phys ed
student. Phys Ed of course being my
favorite! I didn’t start enjoying
writing until I had to do it on my job where I had to do business
communications, press releases, policy and procedures manuals, and marketing
materials. My favorite assignment was as
the managing editor of an in-house newspaper.
I liked everything about that project.
Do you have a
favorite story that you’ve written?
I don’t do a lot of short story writing, so I would have to
say a story I wrote for a contest (and took second place) about driving on the
left side of the road when a friend and I traveled to Ireland.
I called it Left is Right.
Do your books
usually have a central message to share with your readers?
I try very hard to have the subliminal message of strong
moral background and good common sense.
Are you working on
any projects now?
Yes, I’m working on the third book in the Emerson’s Attic
series; it will be called Quiet Heart. When I can squeeze it in, I also work on my
second adult manuscript which is entirely different than Emerson’s Attic.
What are your goals for this year?
a. Publish Quiet Heart.
b. Get marketing
organized to a point where it will take less time in the future.
c. Get an agent
interested in my first adult manuscript.
Is there anyone in
particular who encouraged you to write?
Yes, I have a wonderful friend, Carolyn Sparks, who is my
mentor and muse. She never stops
encouraging me. You, as a writer, know
how important it is to have someone who keeps you on the straight and narrow,
or in Carolyn’s case we like to say the yellow brick road. Carolyn not only encourages me, she
proofreads. She also, unintentionally,
gives me lots of ideas from her own experiences. She has wonderful stories from which I
sometimes take ideas, with her permission of course.
What age range are your books most appropriate for?
Emerson’s Attic is for middle-grade readers, ages 9-14. However, I believe it really depends on the
reader. I’ve had some youngsters say
they think the books are too hard and others tell me they’re too easy. And, I’ve had adults tell me they enjoyed the
books. I will say that I do not “write
down” to young readers. Since Emerson,
the main character, is a time traveler I use vocabulary, historical facts, and
geography from every place she goes. In The Blue Velvet, I used references to
classic books such as Pride and Prejudice
in the hope it would spark interest in readers to read those books.
Can you please include links where your books can be
purchased?
The Blue Velvet: http://www.amazon.com/Blue-Velvet-Emersons-Attic-Book-ebook/dp/B00E1OONUO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1424462391&sr=8-1&keywords=Emerson%27s+attic
Smoke and Mirrors: http://www.amazon.com/Smoke-Mirrors-Book-Emersons-Attic/dp/0989438937/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1424462475&sr=8-2&keywords=Emerson%27s+attic%2C+smoke+and+mirrors
Both books are available in paperback and e-book.
Would you say your writing is any particular style?
Hmmm, I would say my style is simple narrative. I try to write clean without unnecessary
adjectives and fast-paced to keep the reader interested.
Is there anything else you’d like to share?
I didn’t set out to write historical fiction but readers are
now telling me that’s how they would describe Emerson’s Attic. I research
every time period where Emerson travels and try to be as accurate as possible
with details. Apparently, this research
has paid off if readers feel they are learning something when they read Emerson’s Attic, and that puts a smile
on my face.

An Interview with Hattie the Chicken!
“Today I have the pleasure of interviewing Hattie the Chicken, one of the stars of Charlene the Star and Hattie’s Heroes and Charlene the Star and Bentley Bulldog. Hattie, I’m so excited that you’re my guest today.”
“Why, thank you, Deanie. I’m thrilled to be here. You can tell because I can’t sit still. I’m hopping around, flapping my wings.”
“Hattie, you’re making me laugh.” We need to get down to the questions now.”
- Hattie, how did you get your name?
“Oh, I’m so happy you started with an easy question so I wouldn’t be nervous.
My Mama said when I was born there was a piece of shell stuck on my head. it looked like a hat so she thought I’d like wearing hats. She decided Hattie was the perfect name for me.
- How many books have you starred in?
My first book was Charlene the Star and Hattie’s Heroes. Oh,that story was fun.
My friends loved my talents. Wooliam, the sheep, Elliott the dog, and all of our other friends helped show me that I was a really good organizer. I have such good beakmanship (I write with my beak, you know) that I wrote a cute ad for theGazette when we started our own business. We had a great time and we helped so many horses overcome their problems. Tiger Lily was afraid of EVERYTHING when she started her training. But she was so talented. We had to build her confidence. Elliott helped a lot with that. Oh my, I’m talking so much I have to take a rest. Oh, I almost forgot to mention the gorgeous red horse, Charlene the Star. She’s such a
talented jumper.
What do you like to do?
Oh, that’s a good question! After I finish hopping around I’ll be able to answer. Ah, that’s better. Now I can tell you that I LOVE to wear pretty bonnets. I make them myself. Now I have so many colors! I even have a blue one with bright yellow polka dots! Other than wearing my beautiful hats, I like to plan events, like fairs. it’s so
much fun.
You mentioned Wooliam. Tell us about him.
Wooliam is a super-friendly Suffolk sheep. He told us that all of his relatives have black faces and black legs, just like him. Wooliam did something special for Charlene the Star. But I can’t tell you everything about the story.
Tell us about your new book, Charlene the Star and Bentley Bulldog.
Well, you probably guessed that Bentley is one of the stars. He was absolutely obnoxious when we first met. My goodness, my soft red feathers are getting ruffled just thinking of him. But eventually he does quite a few good things. You’d be surprised. Here’s a picture of him escorting me across the street. He was wearing his crossing guard jacket to keep me safe. We made a plan because my friends were feeling very sad and we had to do something to cheer them up. Our plan worked out perfectly. Charlene also had some new experiences. It was so exciting.
What do you think children will remember about your books?
They’ll remember how much fun it is to read them. They’ll learn about sharing, helping others, teamwork, setting goals and working hard, just to mention a few things. They’ll love the covers and beautiful illustrations by Holly Humphrys-Bajaj! They’re remarkable.
Well, Hattie, it’s nearly time for your lunch, so I think we’ll have time for one more question. Where can people buy your books.
Our books are on http://www.Amazon.com and http://www.barnes and Noble.com. If people want signed copies, they could email you at: deanie@dhdunne.tk. And everyone would like to know that our books are on Kindle, too. If anyone wants to find out more, they should visit your website:
