"A lovely story for children who love ponies and horses and enjoy learning more about them. The author created a story about twin ponies who are adorable, delightful and intelligent.~J. J. Spina

'The Adventures of Cocoa and Cream-Remarkable Twin Ponies by Deanie Humphrys-Dunne is a fun, creative horse story about twin ponies kids will adore. "~Virginia Wright

"This book for children centers around two girls, twin ponies, and a ranch. Okay, nothing big about that, what????? The ponies can speak!! Wow."~Mary Schmidt

"This is truly a lovely book for children who love animals. It’s one they will read many times because of both the story and the information it contains.

Finally, a tip-of-the-hat to the illustrator, Mirjana Bubevska, for some of the most charming illustrations I’ve seen anywhere".~Theodore J. Cohen

"This sweet tale is a perfect choice for children who love horses and pets. The author teaches about the care and equipment needed for taking care of horses. Text dialogue portrays their personality qualities. Black and white illustrations match the emotion of the text. As a teacher, I appreciate the questions for readers to test their memory. The book is a excellent choice for a beginning or reluctant reader but enjoyable for any age reader."~Barbara Mojica

"Cocoa and Cream-Remarkable Twin Ponies" is a fun story to read about twin ponies who are able to talk to children and help them. It is a heartwarming story of how the ponies are gentle and helpful in helping children learn to ride. It was fun and easy to read in short chapters with a few black and white illustrations that go along great with the story.
I would recommend this to kids who enjoy reading short chapter book stories. There are a few review questions at the end with answers."~Jessica D. Adams

Charlene the Star and Hattie's Heroes: NOW ON AUDIO!

Please check out this endearing tale! Just released on Audible  Great listening for 5-7 year-olds.
"Yet another wonderful children’s story from Ms. Dunne about how dreams, hard work, and determination eventually wins the day.
Children often feel they are the only ones facing challenges, things are always easier “for the other guy,” and they never are going to amount to anything. And of course, with children being children—which is to say, being capable of saying and doing cruel things (in the story, one horse kicks up mud in another’s face during a race)—situations involving competition can turn ugly fast. It’s easy for little ones to get discouraged under such circumstances, and here’s where they need all the encouragement they can get.
Reading a book such as this (and others in Ms. Dunne’s series) is the perfect tonic for brightening a child’s day and restoring their spirits. Who doesn’t love horses? Or a chicken that wears funny hats? Who can stay sad in the face of hearing about how friends can help friends overcome obstacles." ~ from review by Theodore J. Cohen.
Watch for release date on audio!

Spectacular review for Charlene the Star and Hattie's Heroes

"Charlene the Star and Hattie’s Heroes is a read that will keep children engrossed, enthralled and enchanted until the very last page. Charlene the Star and Hattie’s Heroes is a book that was so phenomenal and addictive that my children found it unputdownable. As I read this with my eldest children, they were impatient as they moved to the next page thanks to the stories engrossing literature, riveting plot and let’s not forget, astonishing and adorable characters. These reasons listed above and so many more I am yet to list, is why I recommend that all of you lovely book readers read Charlene the Star and Hattie’s Heroes. I promise you now that your children will not be disappointed if they choose to read this book; never before have I read anything quite so brilliant so please, I urge all of you and your children to read and immerse yourself in this wonderful book! If you need more convincing then read the rest of my review to hear more about this dazzling piece of literature!"

New review for Charlene the Star by Delores Ayotte

I'd like to thank inspirational author, Delores Ayotte, for her extraordinary review of Charlene the Star. Here is her review:

on July 13, 2018
Charlene the Star by Author by Deanie Humphrys-Dunne ( Holly Humphrys-Bajaj ~ Illustrator)

What a delightful children's book! Charlene is born into a family of famous race horses but right from the onset she is concerned about her ability to be a race horse. She is tentative when she mentions this to her mother who encourages Charlene to give it a try nonetheless. She has the opportunity to do just that with her two good friends Ann and Blossom. She quickly realizes that she can't keep up to them and is disappointed in her performance. Thank goodness that Charlene is given the opportunity to excel in another area. Her trainer suggests that she be moved to Jumping for Joy Farm to see how she does with jumping hurdles instead of racing. Elliot, her canine friend helps reassure Charlene and encourages her in bettering her jumping talents.

Author Deanie Humphrys-Dunne utilizes a creative approach to her writing that will definitely appeal to her younger reading audience. The animals are able to communicate with each other which gives the children the opportunity to feel compassion for Charlene's challenges. I enjoyed the questions at the end of the book. They are an additional educational experience sure to provide food for thought. This talented author also demonstrates the benefit of recognizing and accepting the fact that we have different talents. Great lesson to be learned in life. Lovely cover to the book too.

A tribute to Elliott-our very special dog

Today is a very sad day for our family because we had to have our beloved, dog, Elliott, put to sleep. He was at least 15-years-old and had been part of our family for 13 and a half years. He was the best ever and we are honored to have rescued him from the pound all of those years ago.
Elliott was something of a fixture at the local pound. He'd been there for six months when we met him. It was a few days after our chocolate lab, Riley, died after being hit by a car. Who would fill the big hole in our hearts? We planned to adopt a yellow lab named Molly, but when our son, Shane, met Molly, he didn't see anything special in her. Besides, people were lined up to adopt her.
Then we met Elliott. He was smiling from ear to ear and so excited to meet us. He jumped in my lap and planted a big, sloppy kiss on my cheek. He even pressed his tongue against my cheek and slid it, just to make sure I was impressed.
Elliott made us smile all the time. He loved to jump on our bed and sleep between us in the morning after he had breakfast. One of his other favorite pass times was to stick that big handsome head of his into the waste baskets and take out tissues. He looked so funny with pieces of tissues dangling from his chin. Sometimes he's carry them to his water bowl and  drop them in. I think Elliott was a decorator at heart because when he'd sneak into the porch, he loved sticking his sizable head into the recycle bin. Then he'd go down the stairs and redistribute all the containers around the yard until he thought it looked just right.
Now he's in doggie Heaven where he can play with lots of other dogs and have fun, the way he couldn't do on Earth anymore.
Elliott, we miss you, but you're unforgettable. You'll always be a star.
Elliott is featured on and in two of my books so I"m sharing his picture with all of you today. Shane had tons of pictures of him on his phone, but it was stolen, so these are the best pictures we can share with you.

Christine's review of Charlene the Star!

Charlene the Star by Deanie Humphrys-Dunne

Children’s author Deanie Humprhys-Dunne has recently done a revised edition of Charlene the Star. This delightful children’s story has a wonderful life lesson. It explores the concept of finding what you do well – and that which you enjoy – and pursuing this.
Charlene the Star by Deanie Humphrys-Dunne
Charlene the Star by Deanie Humphrys-Dunne
This is the first book in the Charlene the Star series. Charlene is a beautiful chestnut filly with a rich red coat. She is a thoroughbred with a family that has performed well on the track. Although she grows up in a beautiful home and is well cared for, Charlene questions if there might be more to life than running. She just doesn’t seem to have the heart for it.
Following her mother’s wise advice, Charlene decides to give racing a go. After all, it is anticipated that she will do it well – and enjoy it. When this doesn’t seem to be the case, Charlene remembers another piece of advice from her mother. She was told to try her best but if she didn’t like racing, then to find a way to let her trainer and exercise rider know.

Colleen’s #Book #Reviews – “Charlene the Star,” by Deanie Humphrys Dunne

https://colleenchesebro.com/2017/02/17/colleens-book-reviews-charlene-the-star-by-deannie-humphreys-dunne/
Please stop by to check out Colleen Chesebro's wonderful post about Charlene the Star. Here are some excerpts:
MY RECOMMENDATION:
Charlene the Star is a sweet story for young readers who love horses or animals in general. In the beginning, soon after Charlene is born, she learns that she has been born into a family of racehorses. Of course, her family wants her to follow in their footsteps (literally). However, this is a tough act for her to follow. Charlene soon discovers that being a racehorse just isn’t something she enjoys which causes her to have an identity crisis about what her role in life should be.
One thing Charlene does love is jumping, and that leads her to a major life opportunity. She visits the Jumping for Joy Ranch and is introduced to rail jumping, and she ends up excelling at the sport. In fact, after much practice, she proves to be so good that she wins a first and second place ribbon while participating in a competition.
“Deanie Humphrys-Dunne was blessed with the wonderful gift of telling inspiring stories that encourage children to believe in themselves, work hard and achieve their own unique and special dreams. As we well know from our human experience, it is not easy to be born into a family of super-high-achievers.

Here is my review of Charlene the Star:

5 Stars A Unique and Inspiring Story for Children
Paperback: May 2, 2013
Charlene the Star is a wonderfully unique story for children of all ages. The writer speaks for the characters in a charming and irresistible way. She teaches children the importance of being yourself and if you work hard you will reach your goals. Charlene is a beautiful horse who comes from a long line of champion race horses. She does not, however, want to race. She has other dreams and goals. Charlene has friends who help and support her along the way. I wrote a more extensive review on my blog at jemsbooks.wordpress.com. This book is a sweet and sensitive story. The author, Deanie H. Dunne, has written a sequel to this book, Charlene the Star and Hattie’s Heroes which is equally entertaining.
Thank you, readers, for stopping by.

The Heart Stone Chronicles by Colleen Chesebro

"Please welcome amazing author, Colleen Chesebro. I can't wait to tell everyone about your book, Colleen. We'll get right to the questions.

Colleen, tell us about your new book.
Hi, Deanie. Thanks for the opportunity to share the magic of my new book. I used the classic “hero’s journey,” to tell Abby’s story. Fourteen-year-old Abigale Forester, recently orphaned and a ward of the State of Illinois moves from Chicago to Florida to live with her aunt, her last living relative. Magnolia Forester becomes her legal guardian, and together they claim an ancient inheritance; land that belonged to Abby’s mother’s family for generations.
Abby holds onto the only piece of her mother she has left, a calcite pendant and her mother’s most sacred possession. It is with her aunt that Abby discovers the truth of her legacy. The pendant is more significant than she could imagine. Forged from a giant mystical heart-shaped stone found on the very swamp land Abby now owns, it holds the power of her ancestors.

But with that power comes greater responsibility, one that pits her against Rafe Cobb, a greedy land developer, who will stop at nothing to own Abby’s swamp land. As Abby learns to be part of a family again and explores her love of horses with friends, Savanna, Blake, and Cash, the swamp slowly gives up some of its secrets. She is summoned by a primeval nymph, who teaches Abby that her true destiny is to protect the nymphs from evil in an ever-changing modern world.
It's a fascinating book, Colleen. I know it will be loved and admired.
How did you get the idea for it?
A couple of years ago, we lived north of Pensacola, Florida in a rural area where most mornings, I walked along a country road for exercise. One foggy November morning, I saw something in the bushes at the side of the road next to the swamp that I will never forget.
I thought I saw a ruby-throated hummingbird, but as I peered inside the bushes, I realized I was witnessing a magical event. It was something else entirely. I saw a tiny green being which I now believe was a swamp fairy. I know it sounds crazy, but I’m not kidding.
The vision didn’t last long, and I was paralyzed and rooted to the spot. I couldn’t move. Later, I would surmise that I had been enchanted and had received the gift of “fairy vision.” The swamp fairy had ignited my imagination.
After that, there was no stopping me. I started to write short stories about the swamp fairies. Then, the dreams started. Slowly a story began to form in my mind as if I was channeling the stories from the nymphs themselves. I knew I was a fairy whisperer because they wanted me to tell their stories. I have no idea where some of the story events came from. It was like being presented with a gift.
What an amazing story, Colleen and a great inspiration to you.
Are you planning a sequel to your story?
Yes. The second book in the series is called, “The Heart Stone Chronicles: The Meadow Fairy.”
The story continues as Abigale Forester journeys from Blackberry Ridge, Florida to Bent Grass, Colorado when her Aunt Magnolia accepts a job as a researcher working for an author who specializes in writing about myths and paranormal activity.Abby, along with her deceased mother’s most sacred possession, a calcite pendant, continues her legacy as a Fairy Whisperer to the primordial fairy nymphs who inhabit unique places scattered about the world.
In Colorado, Abby meets two young friends, Crosby, and Landon Miller, who along with their family are beekeepers on a small farm under the shadow of Pike’s Peak. Abby is summoned by a primeval nymph who asks her to resolve the secret of why the bee population is disappearing from the prairie meadows.
With the help of Nate Bannock, a Native American Ute rancher, Abby learns the astonishing truths behind the decimation of the bee population.
Does Abby have what it takes to save the bees and the Meliae Meadow Nymphs before it is too late?
I can't wait to read the next one!
What would you like readers to remember most about it?
The novel centers on two main themes. The first issue Abby deals with is how to become part of a family and to understand the responsibilities of her family heritage. I also added one of the most pressing ecological concerns of the day, the loss of our natural wetlands by human encroachment. My hope is to inspire young people to become scientists so they can solve these environmental issues.
However, I tried to touch on issues that affect kids today like, bullying, prejudice, and trying to fit in when you know you are not like anyone else. These are concerns that all young people have. I hope the message teens get is that it is all right to be different.
What advice would you like to share with aspiring writers?
Never give up your dream of writing. Keep reading and learning to perfect your craft. Be patient and learn from others. Always give the gift of your time to others… it will come back to you tenfold!
Such valuable advice, Colleen.

Is there anything else you’d like to add?
I contacted my friend, Irene, of IreneDesign2011 and asked her to make a replica of Abby’s calcite fairy stone pendant. She created two versions of the necklace, featuring a small calcite stone and a large calcite stone. The pendants are for sale at her Etsy Store with these links: here, for the large calcite and here for the little calcite in Irene’s Etsy Shop.
"Thank you so much, Colleen. We had a great time together.
"I enjoyed it as well, Deanie."
